This is the original food portion of the US Army, known by the abbreviation MRE (Meal Ready to Eat). This complete nutritious food is designed for long-term storage and easy transportation and preparation in the field. Each MRE package contains a main course, side dish, condiments, dessert, snacks, instant drink and cutlery. Everything is placed in a sturdy, waterproof package that protects the contents. Each of the components is also individually packaged. The chemical heater is for heating the main course, without using fire. The package with the main course, without opening, is placed in the heater package and only the indicated amount of water is added to start the heat-releasing reaction.
