Origin: France (sticks) and Belgium (lace)Date: 1895/1900This late 19th century fan is made of iridescent goldfish mother of pearl sticks, gilded and silvered, and a handmade mixed Duchesse bobbin leaf with a Brussels Point de Gaze needle lace insert. The lace is worked with sprays of flowers and roses. The colour of the leaf is cream – natural linen thread. This fan comes in its original silk lined cardboard box with a J. Duvelleroy, Regent Street, London affixed to the bottom .Length: 9.5″ (24.5 cm) Width: 18″ (46 cm)Condition: Excellent, usable condition with a couple of faint marks on the leave beside the right guardstick. The box shows older restorations and wear, but protects the fan well.
